Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)
A modern horror film that is both scary and intense, yet unserious.
Laura’s Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Plot: A group of longtime friends gets together for a party in a mansion during a storm. What starts as an innocent “murder” party game in the dark soon turns deadly serious. Past history between the friends creates resentment and suspicion as they try to survive the night.
Analysis: The film’s characters are mostly vapid rich kids, yet they each feel developed and have distinct personalities. Rachel Sennott was a standout among the cast, but all the performances were well delivered. The commentary on wealth is subtle but impactful, showing the characters’ lack of meaningful contribution to society. But the movie also touches on serious issues impacting the younger generations, like drug abuse, social media addiction, and mental health issues.
The satire throughout the film adds a teasing tone to the film against the backdrop of actual horror. At first, the kids are not sure what is a joke and what is true tragedy and horror. As the night unfolds, the terror increases.
I have a feeling that anyone over 45 would absolutely hate this film, anyone above 25 would love that it makes fun on Gen Z, and anyone younger would identify with it in some way. Check it out if you’re looking for entertainment with a hint of social commentary.
