Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

A stunningly animated adventure that serves as the middle film in a trilogy.
Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars
Plot: Spider-Man Miles Morales faces a new threat in The Spot and is reunited with Spider-Woman Gwen Stacy, who now works with a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the multiverse.
Analysis: Once again, this film had absolutely beautiful animation. I will say that at times, the visual effects were almost over-stimulating and a bit distracting. The first film really differentiated each universe by its animation style, whereas the styles bled together more in this movie.
I didn’t love the beginning of the movie, which focused more on Gwen Stacy (Spider-Woman). It did, however, introduce two new Spider-People that work as part of a society to control universe timeline breaches.
I enjoyed this movie overall. It has a cool soundtrack, a good storyline, and some really great details woven in if you pay attention. There’s definitely some laughs and while it’s a family friendly movie, the humor doesn’t feel juvenile. The film definitely deepened the universe but it does end on a cliffhanger, as it’s only the second installment in a series.
Superhero movies based on comics have dominated our theaters for over a decade now but this movie is for true lovers of the comics. It takes the beautiful illustrations and drawing styles and brings them to life on the screen. I’d recommend the film but absolutely watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse first.
