A late summer blockbuster with Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor starring.

Plot: A family finds themselves and their neighborhood transported to another world where they must band together in order to survive.

Analysis: I was definitely entertained and it was fun to see a dinosaur movie outside of the Jurassic Park universe. The acting is pretty solid and despite Anne Hathaway’s beauty, everyone was believably a suburban resident. There’s a sense of nostalgia cultivated by the neighborhood block party, 80s outfits and furnishings, and kids taking Stranger Things-esque bike rides through the neighborhood.

I liked the movie, but it felt a little all over the place tonally. I wasn’t sure if things were serious or funny, scary or sad. While a little mixing of these elements can be great, it felt choppy to me and took me out of it at certain moments. Despite this, I did really enjoy the wrap up of the film.

It is a little scary and violent in places so use caution (the movie is appropriately PG-13 and too scary for little kids). Not a must-see-in-theaters movie in my opinion, but The End of Oak Street is worth a watch.
