F1 (2025)

A movie about the pinnacle of motorsport: Formula One Racing.
Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars
Plot: Retired driver Sonny Hayes returns to F1 after 30 years to try to save a struggling team owned by his former teammate.
Analysis: This was my first time seeing a movie with the Marcus Theatres Screen X setup and I really enjoyed it! The wraparound screen puts you in the action and enhances the intense driving scenes.
I was thoroughly entertained by this movie. As a fan of F1, it was awesome to see the real life drivers, team principals, and announcers worked into the film. There is actual racing footage in the film, which lends it some authenticity, despite a bit of dramatic license used to enhance the story.
I do think the film relied on one too many crashes to change the direction of the race. Of course, they need drama for the plot, but it’s a delicate balance between realism and excitement. A sport like F1 is plenty exciting without extra scandals, crashes, etc. so that is my main critique.
I loved that the film highlighted the stories that make the sport so interesting beyond the top teams and the championship. Sonny Hayes and APXGP were not competing for a championship, but the story of the team’s quest for points and a single race win is still plenty entertaining and intense.
I can’t remember the last time I felt so tense during a movie. The racing scenes were engaging and the drama was high. I felt like I was watching Drive to Survive. I thought the casting was excellent and the acting was high quality. The movie reminded me of Ford v Ferrari in a lot of ways, which is a compliment. Also, the soundtrack is great, with a solid musical score (duh, it’s Hans Zimmer).
I’d highly recommend F1 to fans of racing, sports movies, and action dramas in general.
