Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars

I bought this book on a whim a while back and finally got to reading it on the plane and by the pool on a recent vacation. I’ve been enjoying some romance books recently and this one had an interesting spin on the genre.

The Analysis:

When Sarah and Eddie meet, it’s practically love at first sight. They end up spending a blissful week together, only separated when Eddie has to leave on a planned vacation. He promises to call Sarah and they make plans to reunite upon his return. The only problem is Eddie never calls. In fact, he seems to disappear from the face of the earth. Sarah is desperate to contact him and although her friends think he simply ghosted her, she knows there’s more to the story.

This book started off a bit slow for me but once I got into it, I devoured the remainder. Much of the book is driven by the big question: what happened to Eddie? The mystery helps keep the reader’s attention and the need to figure out the truth builds as the book goes on. The chapters alternate between the present, where Sarah longs for Eddie while also trying desperately to move on, and the week with Eddie as we see their budding romance take form.

My main criticism would be that because the reader only sees Sarah and Eddie’s relationship through brief flashbacks, it doesn’t feel fully fleshed out. It’s hard to convince me that someone would be so deeply in love after literally 7 days. However, the author does do a good job of describing Sarah’s feelings and how her and Eddie’s connection felt. This book is emotional in parts and deeper than I expected, making it feel like more of a drama than a light romance. I recommend it for romance lovers and specifically, fans of Colleen Hoover.
