I Care a Lot (2020)

A slow-burn thriller with a unique plot and an exciting ending.

Laura’s Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

Plot: Marla is a professional legal guardian, who preys on vulnerable elderly. When she tries to scam the wrong lady, she gets involved way over her head.

Analysis: So I honestly started writing this review when I was over halfway through the movie and it was pretty critical. Rosamund Pike is fantastic but I did not like the plot.

The movie made me feel icky because everybody in it is a bad person. There’s no one to root for and each side is stubborn and horrible. There’s maybe a light dose of commentary on the unattainability of the American dream, but it was lackluster.

However, just as I was ready to call it a below average flop, the movie took a turn and left me genuinely surprised and intrigued. I deleted half my review and had to rethink the whole film. If you can stick through a slow burn with unlikeable characters, the payoff just might be worth it.
