Inglorious Basterds (2009)

A fictionalized version of events before and during WWII.
Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars
Plot: The film follows two (fictional) plots in France to assassinate Nazi leadership during WWII. A group of Jewish-American soldiers set out to kill and intimidate Nazis, while Shosanna, an undercover Jewish woman, seeks revenge for her family’s murder years earlier.
Analysis: It’s interesting to see a universe with an alternate history that is based on such a real, impactful scenario such as the Nazi occupation of France. The dark comedy livens up a plot that would otherwise become pretty dark and heavy.
This shouldn’t be a shock with a Tarantino film, but there’s some very graphic gore. You literally see soldiers scalping Nazis, so be prepared.
The acting is fantastic and Christoph Waltz as SS Colonel Hans Landa is the standout for me among a talented cast. One of my only complaints is that the pacing is a bit slow and I would’ve appreciated a faster pace and therefore a shorter run time.
Overall, Inglorious Basterds was well made and entertaining.
