Mini Movie Reviews: Uncharted and The ‘Burbs

Mini Movie Reviews

Uncharted (2022)- 3/5 Stars

Based on a video game franchise of the same name, Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) as he teams up with Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to discover gold treasure from Magellan’s adventures around the world. There are the typical action sequences, exotic locations, and rag-tag group of explorers you’d expect to find in an action-adventure movie. It feels like a modern but less iconic twist on Indiana Jones. This movie was not bad, it was just incredibly average. I wouldn’t tell someone not to watch the film, but I wouldn’t actively recommend it either.

The ‘Burbs (1989)- 2.5/5 Stars

Making fun of the suburbs and the eccentric residents of such neighborhoods, this kooky horror/comedy starring a young Tom Hanks has a distinct 80s vibe. It has a similar quirky feel to the hijinks in Joe vs The Volcano, which was made just a year later in 1990. Ray Peterson and his neighbors start to suspect their new neighbors of some sinister activities and devote themselves to finding out what is going on next door. The movie was entertaining but nothing special and certainly not high quality filmmaking.
