Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)

Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars

Arguably the best installment of the iconic franchise.

Plot: An artificial intelligence has evolved into a powerful threat that could mean world dominance or destruction, depending on who has control over it. IMF agent Ethan Hunt has been assigned to track down a two-part key that controls the AI.

Analysis: This movie feels like a modern interpretation of Mission: Impossible, with updated enemies and technology. I enjoyed the main plot line because the threat of a rogue AI feels very relevant to today. The film incorporates beloved characters from past films and keeps familiar elements of the IMF while bringing the movie up to a higher level of quality. The movie is suspenseful throughout, although some parts feel a bit drawn out.

My main criticism is simply that I don't love that this installment is a part one, as I always like movies to stand on their own. Despite this, it’s probably the best of the franchise. You should watch the other movies to get the most out of this one, but I’d recommend it.
