The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware (2019)

Laura’s Rating: 4/5 Stars

Plot: Rowan stumbles across an ad for a nannying job and once she sees the modern house in the Scottish Highlands, she is thrilled to land the live-in position. However, the smart home is filled with intrusive cameras and confusing technology, not to mention the three temperamental little girls under Rowan’s care. Plus something else is going on in the house: strange noises and unexplained occurrences that will ultimately send Rowan to her downfall.

Opinion: Finally! I had been a little disappointed in my last couple reads from this author but I enjoyed this one.

The main character was engaging and sympathetic and the side characters added interesting wrinkles to the story without feeling just like plot devices. Each of the little girls had their own personalities and you could easily imagine the sibling dynamic.

I liked the hint of potential supernatural events intertwined with the real life anxieties of a stressful new job. There were just enough mysteries and unknowns to keep me interested. The Turn of the Key is a solid thriller.
