National Treasure (2004)

An action thriller centered around our nation’s most prized historical document.

Laura’s Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

Plot: Eccentric historian Ben Gates has been searching for treasure his whole life, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and others before him. When a clue in his quest points to the Declaration of Independence, Ben must get to the document before anyone else; to save it and to discover its secrets.

Analysis: It’s been years since I’ve watched National Treasure but it was fun to revisit the adventure thriller. The movie has aged surprisingly well for being 20 years old and doesn’t feel dated or irrelevant. Nicolas Cage and the rest of the cast deliver decent performances.

I’d describe the movie as a mixture of Indiana Jones and a Dan Brown story, with clues and conspiracies plus high stakes adventure and treasure.

There’s not tons to unpack as far as analysis, but the movie is fun and entertaining. History buffs would love it, as would fans of action and adventure.
