Old (2021)

Laura’s Rating: 3/5 Stars
Plot: A couple and their two children go on a tropical vacation to a fancy resort. The hotel manager cues them in about a secluded private beach for only a few guests. The family heads to the beautiful beach, but after a few hours, they appear to be rapidly aging. Will they make it off the beach before their whole lives have passed them by?
Opinion: This movie is super weird. As the time on the beach goes on, absolutely crazy things start happening. Some of them were interesting and some were a bit over-the-top. There are some bizarre and quite unsettling images throughout this thriller, so it’s not for the faint of heart. I liked the ending, but admittedly there’s plenty of unanswered questions.
Director M. Night Shyamalan is notorious for his great movies, as well as his terrible ones. For me, Old falls somewhere in the middle. I liked some of the concepts, but the execution wasn’t as great as it could have been. There’s too many plot holes and a couple scenes that bordered on cheesy. If you’re consistently a fan of Shyamalan’s work or if you like crazy thrillers like mother! then you might enjoy this film. However, I wouldn’t give it a blanket recommendation.
