The Bookshop of Second Chances by Jackie Fraser (2021)

A story about starting over and finding your way when things don’t go as planned.
Laura’s Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Plot: It’s serendipitous timing when Thea’s husband admits to an ongoing affair as she receives word that she’s inherited her uncle’s country house. At least Thea has somewhere to go and something to keep her mind off of her failed marriage. But rather than an ending, this just might be a second chance.
Analysis: This book was charming. It wasn’t necessarily your typical romance and the story had unique and flawed (in a relatable way) characters. I liked Thea’s no nonsense approach to conversations and relationships. Rather than beating around the bush, she says what’s on her mind or asks a direct question. Seeing as I dispise miscommunication tropes, the directness was refreshing. That being said, feelings are always a bit confusing and the book is not entirely without dramatic misunderstandings.
I’ve enjoyed books and then not remembered much about the plot, but I will say that this one has stuck with me for whatever reason. I remember specific scenes and events so I think that means the author did something right. I’d recommend The Bookshop of Second Chances for a light but not too light read.
