The Gray Man (2022)
Laura’s Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
This Netflix film is directed by the Russo brothers, known for directing several successful Marvel movies. The movie features a star studded cast including Ryan Gosling, Billy Bob Thorton, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas. The movie is based on a 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney and there are already plans for a sequel.
The Analysis:
A CIA assassin known as Sierra Six (Ryan Gosling) suddenly finds himself on the run after discovering agency secrets that were meant to be kept buried. Six must use his skills and network of resources to stay alive, but it’s hard when he doesn’t know who he can trust. When the CIA brings in an unhinged mercenary to track down Six, he will need all the help he can get.
The movie is slick and stylish with visually stunning cinematography, good costuming, and impressive action sequences. The plotline was interesting and original enough within the spy action genre. Towards the end of the film, there were some scenes that were a bit over the top in my opinion but it wasn’t enough to ruin the movie.
I’d say this movie is up there with modern Bond films, delivering action, adventure, and style. One of the best movies I’ve seen in recent years, The Gray Man is also low-key funny and provides some good laughs, which is refreshing for a fast-paced action film. Chris Evans really had fun with his role and provided much of the comic relief, but most of the characters had witty lines and sharp comebacks. If you’re looking for action, humor, and overall entertainment, I’d definitely recommend this movie.
