Together (2025)

A body horror film centered around a couple.
Laura’s Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Plot: Long term couple Tim and Millie move to the countryside for Millie’s new job. Feeling unmoored without the familiarity of home and friends, tensions start to rise. And something mysterious in the woods threatens to undo them completely.
Analysis: Wow. This movie was legit scary and unsettling. I could feel the discomfort of the characters and the body horror was indeed horrific. I found the concept of the film unique and Tim and Millie’s relationship (before the crazy stuff starts happening) somewhat relatable for anyone that has been with the same person for a long time.
I did like that real life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie played Tim and Millie, although I didn’t actually feel like their real-life chemistry (which I’ve seen in interviews) translated that much onto the screen. I’m sure the actors were more comfortable filming certain scenes, but there wasn’t any real level of familiarity that I could detect that I wouldn’t expect from other actors.
I don’t want to give too much away, but watching a trailer will probably give you insight about what to expect in terms of body horror. Admittedly though, the film is pretty weird in general. You can tell things are off even before much happens. In some ways this works, but it’s also my main reason for not giving the movie a higher star rating. I don’t think I liked the ending and it gets maybe just a bit too weird (like I wouldn’t blanket recommend this to the average viewer).
The themes of independence versus codependence and finding a sense of purpose in one’s partner were interesting. I still don’t know how I feel about the very end of Together, but the rest of the film is top notch unique horror.
