Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson (2019)
An original and thoughtful novel on finding unexpected love and purpose.
Laura’s Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
Plot: Lillian and Madison have a complicated friendship that began in college. Madison comes from money and privilege, while Lillian was less fortunate and is currently floundering without purpose or direction. When Madison calls Lillian with a unique request to be a governess for her two stepchildren, Lillian agrees. The catch: the kids catch fire when they’re upset. Literally.
Analysis: I really enjoyed this book, although I had trouble putting my thoughts into words for this review. It really made me think and reflect on my own wants and desires. There’s thought provoking ideas about love, friendship, parenting, and finding what you want in life. With such a unique and quirky setup, I didn’t expect this book to contain so many feelings and insights. There’s also a thoughtful examination of socioeconomic status, but there’s not a specific message that’s shoved in your face.
Nothing to See Here is interesting, charming, and reflective. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for something a bit different.
