Project Hail Mary (2026)

The film adaptation of Andy Weir’s 2021 novel

Laura’s Rating: 5/5 Stars

Plot: The plot is just like the book: Middle school science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up from a coma to find himself in a spaceship with no idea how he got there. Told in the present and through flashbacks, he slowly remembers that his mission may be very important to the future of Earth and beyond.

Analysis: I absolutely adored the book Project Hail Mary, so I was concerned that the movie wouldn’t live up to my expectations. But I LOVED it. Sure, there are small changes between the book and the movie, but I didn’t feel like anything major was left out or dramatically altered. The cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack is great, and Ryan Gosling delivers a tremendous performance.

This movie is equal parts heartwarming, hilarious, and intense. I cried no less than 6 times (mostly happy tears). I also goofy grinned at the screen half the time just enjoying the beauty and wonder of the story. Project Hail Mary was perfect. Go see it.
