Weapons (2025)

ree

A mysterious thriller centered on a class of missing children.

Laura’s Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

Plot: Nearly every child from Ms. Gandy’s third grade class ran away on the same night at exactly the same time, leaving their parents and the police to question who or what could be the explanation for their disappearance.

Analysis: The movie is told in chapters, with each section focusing on the perspective of one character. As the viewer sees more chapters, the events of the movie start to become clearer.

Weapons really defied genre limitations and was actually pretty funny in some places. The tone is consistently inconsistent, making for an unusual watching experience. I laughed, I hid my face, and I gasped “what is happening?” several times.

While a large chunk of the film feels more like a drama/mystery, there are definitely some creepy scenes and a few jump scares, as well as more gore than I anticipated. A couple specific scenes are quite graphic so be warned.

If you liked Longlegs, you’d probably enjoy Weapons: small town drama, kids missing/dying, an eccentric villain, and a crazy ending.

This movie is scary, funny, and just plain wild. I recommend not looking up too much about Weapons before you watch it, but know that you’re in for a wild ride.
