My Year in Books 2024- Best and Worst
Whew! I just barely made my reading goal this year (shoutout to A Series of Unfortunate Events for getting me across the finish line). This post is out a day or two later than I planned but I wanted to finish all my books, including Britt-Marie Was Here before I posted because I had a feeling a Fredrik Backman book might make my list…
I read 60 books this year and here are my top 5 and bottom 5:
Best Books of 2024:
1. The Maidens (4.5/5 Stars)
2. Britt-Marie Was Here (4.5/5 Stars)
3. The Secret History (4/5 Stars)
4. The Hotel Nantucket (4/5 Stars)
5. Cloud Cuckoo Land (4/5 Stars)
Alex Michaelides and Fredrik Backman have both had books on my top lists before so it’s fun to see those authors as one and two on this year’s list. I did really like all the books on my list, but this wasn’t necessarily the best year for reading for me with no 5 star reads. I literally quit reading Cloud Cuckoo Land and came back so props to the book for making my list but it likely wouldn’t have in another year. Full reviews coming soon for most of these.
Worst Books of 2024:
1. Eileen (1.5/5 Stars)
2. UR (1.5/5 Stars)
3. My Husband (2/5 Stars)
4. Siddhartha (2/5 Stars)
5. Bunny (2/5 Stars)
Despite being a pretty popular book, Eileen was an unpleasant reading experience for me, and not in a way that helped me learn or grow. Stephen King put approximately zero effort into UR and you can tell. The rest of the books on the list just felt like a chore to get through. Bunny at least had some interesting themes, but I still didn’t enjoy reading it.
3.5 Stars was my most common rating this year and that feels about right. I had some enjoyable reads but I’m looking forward to exploring some new stuff next year. Thank you to Goodreads for helping me track my books as always.
